IMPRESSIONS OF ARGENTINA

DIEZ
Still an icon after all these years, the ghost of Maradona the young genius bestrides the country, where the drug-soaked obese madman is a constant reminder of the fickleness of modern celebrity and how nature's gifts don't last forever

 CALVING
The sound of the the glacier cracking is elemental, primordial... as huge chunks of ice get hived off at the edge

 PALERMO FLOWER STAND
Palermo is a trendy up and coming neighbourhood filled with art shops, restaurants and colours

 THE GRANDMOTHER DOESN'T KNOW
A cryptic message is the name of this Palermo Restaurant
 LAS CREADILLAS DE DIOS
An interesting take on religious hagiography in Recoleta's Cemetary in Buenos Aires
MORE THAN JUST A CROSS ON HIS BACK
This juxtaposition of images made me think that there is a lot of responsibility for the idea of Jesus, as he carries the church, the material world (represented by the solid building) and the universe (represented by the open sky) all on his back...one hell of a load

 BRUJAS COLORES
Brujas means witches in spanish, and this close shop is emblematic of the beguiling colours in Palermo
 LA CALLE
Sometimes you just get the moment right, when the light and the colours and shadows come together as in the Palermo street scene
 PALERMO GRAFFITTI
Colours write large in a back street
 PATAGONIAN SKY
There are big sky countries, and small sky countries. Argentina is a big sky country
 PATAGONIAN FIELD
This sums up the place. Nothing else needs to be said
 Y VOS
And you, what are you doing?  I don't know the context, but the message was one which resonated
 VIRGINIA INNOCENTE
Every wall is a potential explosion of colour and messages in Palermo
 WHEN ESCHER MET MAGRITTE
The angled reflection of the rooftop sculpture garden reminded me of a combination of Mauritz Escher, with his tromp l'oeuil staircase and Rene Magritte with his clouds and trees....
WHITE PANSY
At the end of the day, Mother Nature trumps all for beauty
YIN AND YANG
This field of Patagonian lupins morphed into a blue and white ying/yang symbol in my mind, as if they had lined up by colour on purpose
